Fred Steve McCollum Obituary

Fred S. McCollum, age 89, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, MS.

Born in Winston County, AL, Mr. McCollum had lived in this area since 1983 when he and his family moved from Alabama. A U.S. Army veteran, he had served in World War II. He was retired from Bellsouth as a switchman. Mr. McCollum was a lifetime member of the American Legion, a Shriner, and a Mason. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 17, 2009, 12:00 n. - 3:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 17, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. in the Garden of Memories located at Coleman Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Hope and Bro. Hilton Lane officiating. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Ella W. McCollum of Abbeville, MS; one son, Steve McCollum (Susan) of Abbeville, MS; two sisters, Virgie Lee Hughes of Birmingham, AL and Imagene Yonkers of Pell City, AL; one brother, Keith McCollum of Pell City, AL; 2 grandchildren, Jeff McCollum and Amanda McCollum; and 4 great-grandchildren, Sarah Ann McCollum, Alexis Rose McCollum, Jasmine Abigail McCollum, and Matthew Connor Hankins.
