From The Mountain Eagle, September 7, 1898
Submitted by Robin Sterling

Tribute of Respect. Whereas, In the mysterious Providence of God, our beloved brother and friend, George H. Romine, has been removed by death from the scene of his earthly labors, which sad event occurred at his home in Winston county, Ala., on July 27th, 1898; and

Whereas, We, the Blackwater Singing Convention, shall ever cherish in affectionate memory the life and character of the deceased. Therefore be it,

Resolved, That we humbly submit to the will of our Heavenly Father, whose wise dispensations are ever ordered in mercy and justice.

Resolved, further, That in the death of our young brother the Church has sustained a great loss, his father a dutiful son, his brothers and sisters a loving brother, and his wife a loving and affectionate husband.

Resolved, further, That we, the Blackwater Singing Convention, treasure in our hearts the memory of his stainless character and will strive to emulate those virtues which adorned his life, that we may be prepared to meet him when the roll is called up yonder, where no storms ever break on the glittering strand.

Resolved, further, That we tender our sincere sympathies to the relatives and widow of the deceased brother, and while we mingle our tears with theirs in this mighty sorrow, may we unite in contemplation of a final reunion within the pearly gates of the New Jerusalem, where there will be no more parting. [poem]

Respectfully submitted, J.W. Ferguson, Chairman, John A. Wilson, James L. Odom, Committee.

[George H. Romine, 1872 - 1898; buried Bethel Church Cemetery]
