Hyde Boys Cemetery, Winston County, Alabama, T10S R6W S24 Mass grave...no markers. The Hyde family suffered at the hands of the Home Guards. They lived in east Winston. Six brothers, Caleb, James, Elisha, Isaiah, Isaac, and Aaron were apparently tortured and hanged near Nesmith then buried by their family in a mass grave nearby. A popular legend of the county is that the Home Guards spared the youngest son, Aaron, and accounts vary as to the number of the brothers killed. Another legend is that the father got a group of men to go after one of the Home Guards, found him, and drove a railroad stake through his mouth nailing him to a tree. He was found days later and buried near the tree near Lynn.
