John Butler Obituary

From Minutes of the 53rd Annual session of the Little Vine Association of Primitive Baptist held with Sipsey River Church, Marion County, Al, September 17-19, 1909
By Elder F.M. Woodley
Submitted by Willie L. Barton

Brother John Butler was born in Randolph County, Alabama Dec. 3, 1850. Was reared there to manhood and was married to sister Emily Griggs in 1871, moving from there to Etowah County, Al. Joined the Baptist church of the Primitive faith and order in 1888; moved from there to Winston County, Al. where he lived til his death. Died Sept. 15, 1909, making his stay here in this unfriendly world 59 years. Brother Butler was a valiant soldier in the cause of his Master from the time he enlisted until death, and we feel that his companion has lost a good husband and his children a kind and loving father and the church a dear brother. But we feel that our loss is his great gain and while his body sleeps in the dust his spirit sings above. Brother Butler was a deacon of the church and was always found at his post. Funeral was conducted by Elders F.M. Woodley and Charles Densmore, who had been in the church with Brother Butler for 19 years. Done by order of the association.
