Fell To His Death. Joe Mayhall Accidentally Killed By Falling From Window. A.L. Mayhall, a citizen of Haleyville, Alabama, fell from a window in the third story of the Central House Tuesday morning sustaining injuries which resulted in his death some hours later. From the information we can gather it seems that Mayhall and brother went to their room about 11:30 p.m. and the younger brother retired and was soon asleep. The man who was killed evidently became sick and leaned out of the window, and while in this position he fell asleep. Several parties noticed him hanging out of the window about two o’clock in the morning. The next seen of the man was when someone found him on the brick pavement below. From the position of the body Mayhall evidently struck the iron awning frame just below the second story and this threw his body some distance away from the building, though in falling his feet knocked out a window glass on the second floor. He fell on his head, crushing his skull, breaking one arm and injuring him internally. When found he was alive and lived until about eight o’clock. The unfortunate man was taken to Dr. Henry’s office where everything possible was done for him. The remains were taken to Haleyville for burial.—Tuscumbia North Alabamian, July 5th. The deceased is a brother to Billy Mayhall who sold goods at Double Springs a few months back, and is well known here. The unfortunate man had many friends all over the west end of the county who will be grieved to learn of his tragic and untimely death. [Joseph W. Mayhall, son of Jessie and Lizzie Mayhall, 15 Sep 1869 – 3 Jul 1906; buried New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery]
