DOUBLE SPRINGS -- Mrs. Martha Francis Martin, 85, Double Springs died of a heart condition Thursday, March 10, 1983 at her residence in Winston County.

Mrs. Martin was born in Winston County on March 24, 1897, daughter of Joe Gann and Elizabeth Bell Gann. She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Martin.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Martin had a total of 100 living children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Old Enon Church on Saturday, March 12 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ollis Chambless and Rev. Check McCrary officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Nichols Funeral Home directing.

She is survived by three sons, Author Martin, Nauvoo, L.C. Martin, Carbon Hill, and Frank Martin, Birmingham; five daughters, Dena Berry, Double Springs, Feneda Smith, Double Springs, Mae Martin, Lynn, Vodine Hart, Jasper and Perlean Gossett, Double Springs; 33 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Kimbrell, Nauvoo; a host of other relatives and friends.
