Double Springs - Morris Lee McCullar, 50, a well known personality in Winston County, who lived on Route 1 Double Springs, apprently took his own life with a .22 rifle shot to the head at 5:30 a.m. Monday morning Dec 28, 1981. The shooting took place at the McCullar home while Mr. McCullar lay in bed, with Mrs. McCullar and a son in other parts of the house at the time. Besides sheriff's deputies, officers who went to the scene included District Attorney Al Tidwell, and Howard Oliver from the Winston County coroner's office. Funeral services were held at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1981 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Frederick officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Nichols Funeral Home directing. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Imogene McCullar, Double Springs; three sons, Troyce Lee McCullar, Haleyville, Jefferey Morris McCullar, Birmingham and Toby Lee McCullar, Double Springs; three daughters, Mrs. Debra June Cummings, Haleyville, Mrs. Elizabeth Piper and Miss Laura McCullar, both of Double Springs; three grandchildren. His father, Earl McCullar, Double Springs; two brothers, Billy McCullar and Allen McCullar, both of Double Springs; five sisters, Mrs. eloise McEdduff and Mrs. Juanita Jones, both of Birmingham, Mrs. Earlene Humphries, Mrs. Eva Joe Bell and Mrs. Shirley Vandiver, all of Double Springs; a host of other relatives and friends.
