Nelson is shown living in Morgan County, AL and was buried in Cave Springs Cemetery. His headstone and son Simeon's headstone have been moved to Andrews Cemetery. It is not clear when this took place or why. Nancy Deskins was the daughter of Samuel W. and Flora Nelson Deskins. Samuel was a Justice of the Peace, Judge, and Postmaster at Houston in Winston County, AL for many years. Samuel H. Nelson lived in Basham's Gap from 1850 until 1870 when he moved to Lawrence Co. His granddaugher, my grandma, Ella Nelson was married to Sam Moore in 1902 in Winston County, AL. Samuel never served in the Civil war on either side because he was a widower with 5 small children. He was however a strong Union advocate. His granddaughter Sarah Nelson married Rufus Penn whose aunt Sene Penn was married to William B. Looney. Another grandaughter Mary Caroline Nelson married Kelso Tedford whose father was in the 1st Alabama Cavalry, Co. I USA. Submitted by Kermit Smith (kermit61@bellsouth.net) of Hampton, GA on 10/28/2013.
