Dear Hoyt. I visited Spurgeon Lovett, my husband's only living brother who told me the story of the felony committed by Ashley Hewitt Lovett (mentioned in the 1867 Voter's List). It seems that Ashley worked at a small store that had a post-office therein. Someone had ordered a mail order $1.50 watch which was stolen by some mischieveous boys. When the patron did not receive his watch, he had it investigated and since Ashley ran the store, he was responsible for it and was convicted for it and served 6 months. Sincerely, Susan W. Lovett
