Deputy Sheriff John C. Hightower

Looking for information on John C. Hightower (1812-1858) and his parents. Current details suggest John C. moved to Winston County, AL in 1843; was a deputy sheriff, and is reported as being killed while making an arrest in 1858. John C.'s mother is thought to have been a Cherokee Indian and is believed to have died in Winston County in 1858 also. John C. was married to (1) Martha Jordan (Jordon?) and (2) Margaret Patrick Lang. Four of John and Martha's children (John D., Marion, Monroe, and Wilburn) served with the 1st Alabama Cavalry (USA) during the Civil War. The family (minus John C.) shows up on the 1860 Winston County census. Thanks.
