Perlean Gossett, 82, of Double Springs, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Lakeland Community Hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Enon Missionary Baptist Church near Lynn. Bro. Steve Wakefield officiated the service. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.

Gossett was born on June 21, 1926, in Winston County, and lived in the Rocky Plains area all of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. "Pete" Gossett; a daughter, Martha Lue Gossett; her parents, Joseph Columbus and Martha Frances Gann Martin; two brothers, Arthur Francis and L.C. Martin, and a sister, Dena Pamila Berry.

She is survived by a son, M.P. "Sammy" Gossett, Double Springs; two daughters, Judy Sue Gossett and Bessie Lue (Gary) Kelley, all of Double Springs; a brother, Franklin D. Martin, Forestdale; three sisters, Feneda Elizabeth Smith, Nora Mae Martin and Martha Vodine Hart, all of Jasper; two grandsons, Peter Jerome Gossett, Haleyville, and William Eugene Kelley, Double Springs; 18 nieces; 11 nephews, and three special friends, Sarah Blackwell, Ellen Nelson and Betty Nix.
