Winston County,AL (WCGS) Hall County,GA USGenWeb Digital Archives (Hall,GA and Winston,AL) Warren Family Genforum Post 8.30.2010 created by cmb ======================================================= This is not a transcription. It is a compilation of three transcriptions of Reuben Warren's bible which may have been owned by Reuben Warren, Arthur Warren, Lott Warren, Teresa Warren McMillan, and Mrs. Luther Shore. Reuben Warren's Bible ---------------------------------------------------------------- Without inspecting the original bible or without additional evidence it is impossible to determine who made the bible entries but some suggestions can be made: Records before 1.27.1830 made by Reuben Warren, original owner. Records before 1815 from Reuben Warren's personal knowledge. Records beginning 8.20.15 primary documents. Records 1.27.1830 before 4.15.1855 made by Arthur Warren. Records after 4.15.1855 made by Lott Warren. Records after 1873 made by Teresa Warren McMillan. Some entries and notes made by Mrs. Luther Shore. This is not a transcript. It is a compilation of the published transcripts. This compilation is not in the chronological order of the original document or the published transcripts but is organized by marriages, births, and deaths. In this compilation each birth record is preceded by an index number (ID#) which identifies the sequential position of the record in the bible transcript(s). The bible was owned by Australia McMillan Shore, gdau of Tressa Warren. Over the years I have been sent or read other transcripts of this bible record. I've been told that in her book "The House of Warren 990-1990" Ardith Warren Stone included a transcription of the bible which is similar but slightly different than the copy published in "Family Puzzlers." Both transcripts stated that the bible was "published at Philadelphia by Matthew Carey in 1815." Mrs. Stone listed the publisher as M. Carey. Marie Bondurant Warren wrote that "There were a number of entries made on other pages than the family record pages." Ardith Warren Stone included page numbers as part of her transcription. A third publication of the bible record was made in 2001 when Sandra Hart Brown published a pedigree for her family. Mrs. Brown listed as a resource for her ancestry the "Bible of Evelyn Keller" and "Bible of Theresa Warren which was given to her by her mother and father through Caroline Belle McMillion, from there to Mildred Yearwood Bork." This bible record is significant because it includes the death of Lott Warren 2.27.1863 and the location of the burials for Lott and Elizabeth Warren are identified as Blue Creek Old Cemetery, White Co., Ga. For researchers not familiar with these families, Australia Mcmillan was the daughter of William Henry Mcmillan and Celestial Jane Loudermilk; Caroline B and William H were children of Drury Mcmillan and Teresa Warren. Teresa was the daughter of Lot Warren and Elizabeth Satterfield. Lott Warren was the son of Reuben and Mary Warren. Using the published transcriptions and corroborating with other public records it is possible to authenticate and establish a record for the descendants of Reuben Warren 1755-1830 and Marry Warren 1761- ======================================================= NOTES Winston County, AL ======================================================= Reuben Warren 1755-1830 was the grandfather of Susannah Farrow Haynes (wife of Hiram Haynes), Reuben Farrow (husband of Martha A Cox), Martha Farrow League (wife of William Milton League, Elizabeth Farrow Farah (wife of Geroge Farah), Dorenda Young Carroll (wife Dr. David Carroll). The g-grandchildren of Reuben Farrow include Amos Farrow (husband of Mary Jane Miles and Annie Wood), Nancy Jane Haynes Barton (wife of Gilford Barton), Martha Elizabeth Haynes Weaver (wife of Henry Weaver), Georgeann Farah Haynes Chambless (wife of Isaac "Ike" Chambless), Robert Walker League (husband of Margaret M Barton), Cicero Alfred League (husband of Martha J Barton), and Martha Elizabeth League Fry (wife of Caleb Fry). ======================================================= NOTES Hall County, GA ======================================================= Reuben and Mary Warren moved to Hall County, GA before 2.18.1826 when they joined the Yellow Creek Baptist Church by letter. Reuben Warren died 1.27.1830. Two notes in Ardith Warren Stone's transcription which are missing from the "Family Puzzlers" are important: p 107 "Bible belongs to Mrs. Luther Shore" p 677 "A.H. Warren his book: the best of all books" Three notes in the Stone transcription but not recorded in "Family Puzzlers" have an unknown origin and/or significance: p 678 "Lot Warren Bible" p 679 "Rachel Warren" p 680 "Lot Warren Bible" Both the Stone transcription and "Family Puzzlers" have the following notes: [top of page 681] "1852 Elbert Blalock born 25th Octer 1800" [top of page 681] "William Henry MacMillian was born February 27th 1864." Both transcripts have a marginal note "my father". The Stone transcription includes additional "marginal notes identifying Reuben Warren b:1755 as great great grandfather and Revolutionary War soldier: And Lot Warren b:1783 as great grandfather" The Stone transcription described the additional marginal notes as "These additional notes written by Teressa Warren McMillan, who passed the record to her granddaughter Mrs. Luther Shore nee Australia McMillan." The "Family Puzzlers" analysis was "[pencil note "my father, probably written by Australia M Shore]". The "Family Puzzler" description is more likely correct because Teresa Warren was the daughter of Lott Warren and granddaughter of Reuben Warren; Reuben Warren was the great great grandfather of Mrs. Shore. The deaths of Lott Warren in 1873 and Reuben Warren,Jr in 1839 could not have been recorded by Reuben Warren but were recorded by the owners of the bible records in 1839 and 1873. Neither Mrs. Stone's nor the "Family Puzzlers" transcription have the death of Lot Warren recorded (2.27.1863) but it is recorded in the bible records which are described by Sandra Hart Brown. This date may not be correct because it is the date of death for Elizabeth Warren which is recorded in both "Family Puzzlers" and Ardith Warren Stone's transcriptions. Other Warren family researchers list Lott Warren's death as 8.26.1873 which is supported by the 1870 Habersham County GA Census when Lott is reported living in the household of his son-in-law, Drury McMillan, husband of Teressa Warren. ======================================================= compiled by Clyde Barnett, gggg-grandson of Reuben Warren August 2010 ahsstd@yahoo.com Submitted by Clyde Barnett (ahsstd@yahoo.com) on 9/1/2010
